The former La Liga champions won 1-0 against the newly promoted team, Real Valladolid. The one thing that stood apart in this match was the ground in which they played. It was the worst ground I have ever seen. Players were seen patching the ground themselves.
When the Lineups came, I was a bit let down because Valverde had picked the 4-3-3 formation where Dembele was playing on the left. Dembele is a person who can play with both legs but on the left side of the pitch, he is not so good.
Although Barca did all they could, the pitch was against their odds. There were numerous miss passes from almost everyone on the pitch. The recently laid pitch hindered both sides, with large divots appearing throughout the match which forced players to attempt to replace patches of turf in an attempt to make it smoother.
Suarez needs to improve a lot, even though he was involved in the build-up for the only goal in the match, he couldn't convert an easy chance with a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Messi could also not bring his best in this match, with many takeaways from him.
At about 60 minute mark, the formation changed from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 and with Dembele on the right. And right after that, a goal was scored by him.
Former Barcelona Goalkeeper Jordi Masip made two impressive saves from Suarez and Philippe Coutinho before the break and former Manchester City forward Enes Unal was a constant threat.
The real tension came in at 92' minute mark when Keko's diving header gave them an equalizing goal. Thanks to VAR, it was ruled offside.
The hosts delivered a crushing blow to Barcelona's title hopes when they last played at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla four years ago, winning 1-0 against a team including Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Cesc Fabregas.
The next match will be played at home against another promoted team this year, Huesca on September 2nd at 10pm IST.
